Nederland en Indonesië: 400 Jaar Verbeelding
This unique educational project consists of a website and two DVD’s. Over 850 sources from the most important museums and libraries in The Netherlands give an insight in the development of the contacts between The Netherlands and Indonesia since 1600. A deliberate choice has been made not to choose for the well-known sources, which we can find at so many other places, but for complimentary material that shows a great sense of coherence. The collection comprises, among others, paintings, photographs, book clips, newspaper articles, sound and moving image. The sources have been selected along seven lines of investigation regarding the way the Dutch imagined their strange, faraway and rich colony.

Edward W.L. Schenk was a history teacher for 17 years in secondary schools. Since 1995 he has his own firm in audiovisual additional sources for education.
Albert J.J. van der Wal worked as a history teacher for almost 20 years in secondary schools. He is now a maker of documentaries for several (historical) institutions.
The two makers of this project worked together in one earlier subject that offered old silent film material from the Dutch Filmmuseum as a means of investigation for pupils in the era of the turn of the 19th century. On the subject of Indonesia they worked for over five years. Albert van der Wal no longer works in the co-operation.
