Recording the Future: An Audiovisual Archive of Everyday Life in Indonesia in the 21st Century
For this project, eight locations in Indonesia were selected for film recordings, more or less at random: Payakumbuh, Surabaya, Bittuang, Sintang, Kawal, Delanggu and Jakarta. They form the substance of an audiovisual archive of everyday life in Indonesia in the 21st century. They are not a statistical representation of ‘Indonesia’, but open different windows on everyday life in Indonesia: the city, the provincial and harbor town, and rural, uphill, coastal and river areas. The project started in 2003, recording two places every year. These recordings will be repeated every four years in order to create an ‘historical layer cake’.
