Thirty Square Metres and a Balcony
This documentary deals with space issues in a specific area. Barceloneta is a historic neighbourhood by the seafront of Barcelona built as a result of an urban plan in 1753. This plan marked a strictly orthogonal grid still present today, and a simple housing type of two floors. In the neighbouring development, different processes of density population growth increased buildings in height and, at the same time, divided the original house in four, thus creating flats of 25 to 30m2, a type known as ‘Quarts de casa’, the quarter part of the original house. The filmmakers aim to study the way these building processes have affected the relations between the neighbourhood and the families living there.
