Without Wind They Won’t Rise
On a street corner some gang members chill out a few minutes after robbing a bus with a homemade gun; Riding around on his motorcycle, a young hitman describes his job and his progression from robbing bikes to taking lives. Meanwhile, a bunch of kids use recycled materials to build paper kites. This documentary observes how the culture of gang violence and crime spreads from teenagers to children in their daily struggle to survive on the streets of Aguablanca, the largest, most dangerous ghetto in Cali, Colombia. It shows the symbolic world that motivates the action of these gangs. “Some kites, if the conditions are right, will reach the sky, others will get tangled in the electric cables and perish”.
